Highly Suspect visited The Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska and delivered an electrifying performance that resonated with raw emotion and energy. From the moment the band stepped on stage, the crowd was swept up in a whirlwind of powerful guitar riffs, heavy drumbeats, and Johnny Stevens’ gritty vocals. The Bourbon was at capacity for this show. Wall to wall people that were all in from the fist note.

Opening with “Bath Salts,” the band set the tone for the night, blending grunge, alternative rock, and a bit of blues. Lead singer Johnny Stevens’ voice is intense and at times emotional. As a first timer at a Highly Suspect show, you get the feeling that this guy has been places, experienced life, and has seen some things. A definite aura about him but at the same time very down to earth and seemingly accessible. Set list highlights like “Lydia” and “My Name Is Human” had the audience in a trance, swaying to the heavy basslines and choruses, while the band’s interplay was tight, yet still carried a feeling of spontaneity.

As I mentioned, this was my first Highly Suspect show. I was excited about covering it after checking out their latest release, As Above, So Below. It is a great album and I recommend you check it out. I was super impressed with the fan base that showed up. It was a packed house, on a Tuesday night, which you don’t see too often these days. I got the feeling right away that I was one of the few first timers in the house that night.

The energy in the Bourbon was electric, with fans passionately singing along to every word. Highly Suspect’s ability to connect with the crowd was undeniable. Their live performance was dynamic, at times explosive, yet capable of pulling back to reveal an intimate vulnerability. Which is a unique skill not all bands can pull off.

Overall, Highly Suspect delivered an outstanding show. It was a memorable experience for me. Although it was my first time with them, it definitely won’t be the last.
